Ingredients

  • ( 1 cup) Dry green lentils
  • ( 1/3 cup) White rice, raw
  • ( 2 tbsp) Olive oil
  • ( 2 1/2 medium) Brown onion, raw and peeled
  • ( 1/2 tsp) Iodised table salt
  • ( 700 ml) Tap water
  • ( 1 tsp) Cumin (cummin) seed powder

Method

  1. Boil the lentils if using dried lentils for 15 minutes or until just soft.
  2. Cook the rice, following the instructions on the rice packet.
  3. Combine the cooked rice and the boiled lentils.
  4. Shred the onions finely. In a pan, add olive oil and fry the onions until they are golden.
  5. Add the cooked onions to the rice and lentil mixture.
  6. Add cumin and salt.
  7. Cook on low heat for 30 minutes.
